The Derbyshire
Dales
Small stone built
villages nestling in a green rolling landscape, the bustling
market towns of Ashbourne with its Georgian Streets, cobbled
yards and antique shops. Bakewell with the river Wye
meandering through and of course its famous puddings,
historic Wirksworth and the Victorian Spa town of Matlock,
all surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Peak
District National Park
Explore the leafy limestone
dales of the White Peak, the most famous of which is
Dovedale, and the wide open spaces of the gritstone moors of
the Dark Peak, both wonderful walking country. From the
mysterious Megalithic stone circles at Arbor Low and Stanton
Moor,to the humps and hollows left by the 18th
century lead miners, imprints left by former generations,
and of course mile after mile of drystone walling.
Staffordshire Moorlands
Heather moorland and rough
grazing surround ‘The Roaches’ an area that attracts
climbers and walkers from all over the country. Stone built
villages like Warslow, Butterton and Wetton, huddle beneath
the Moors. Longnor with its cobbled Market place sits high
on the ridge between the Upper Dove and Manifold Valley.
The Manifold Track is popular with riders and cyclists.
High Peak
Within a few short miles you
can be transported from the elegant Spa town of Buxton with
its Georgian architecture and wonderful Opera House, to the
